All members have registered charity status and are non-audition choirs. Together, we number 600+ choral singers.
The aims of the Group are broadly as follows:
to provide a forum to allow committee members of local societies to exchange information and support each other in their work
to join forces on matters of mutual concern; lobbying
to explore possibilities for co-operation on events which would otherwise be beyond the scope of our individual societies
The SCCG runs with the absolute minimum of fuss; it is an informal gathering of like-minded and like-burdened volunteers.
Examples of SCCG successes/benefits to date:
recruiting of a conductor and an accompanist at two societies with referrals from a further two societies
co-operation on an Absolute Beginner Course for choral singers between Tyndale and Wycliffe
highly successful Big Sing events of Verdi's Requiem and Vaughan Williams’ A Sea Symphony at Tewkesbury Abbey and of Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius and Berlioz’s Requiem at Gloucester Cathedral, with four of the group being event partners
support of each other's concerts and events in terms of attendance and publicity
exchange of information re resources, scores, soloists, etc
representation of our concerns re the threat to the Music Library Service
